The Law Offices of Kevin J. Mahoney P.C

Bio & Experience

Kevin J. Mahoney was born in Boston, Mass. His father, Donald Mahoney (1934-2008), was a retired Boston Police Officer, a Golden Gloves boxing champion, and highly intelligent, well-read man. He had a big heart, a great sense of humor, and an iron will. He could not be intimidated. A finer Irishman the world has never seen. He is sorely missed.

Kevin Mahoney graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1986, with a B.A. in English. He played wing for the Bridgewater Rugby team. In 1989, Mahoney graduated from the New England School of Law. He was a Symposium Editor of the New England Law Review and his article, United States v. Stanley, Has the Feres Doctrine Become a Grant of Absolute Immunity?, 23 New Eng. L. Rev. 767 (1989) was selected best student article. He won the American Jurisprudence Award for Clinical Evidence (for highest grade in advanced trial practice course) in 1988. He consistently made the Dean’s List (1987-1989).

Following law school, the Connecticut Superior Court offered Mahoney a coveted opportunity to serve as a Superior Court judicial law clerk. He not only drafted opinions for these Superior Court justices, but these justices took the time to teach him how to approach a legal issue, how to successfully argue to a judge, and, most importantly, how to try a case before a jury.

From 1991 to 1993, Mahoney served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office. As an A.D.A., Mahoney tried dozens of cases in the District Courts and represented the D.A.’s Office before the Appeals Court and the Supreme Judicial Court on serious cases, such as appeals from murder, drug trafficking, and rape convictions.

After two years in the D.A.’s Office, Mahoney accepted an associate’s position with Lecomte, Emanuelson, Tick & Doyle. With Lecomte, Emanuelson, Mahoney tried a nine-day civil trial, winning a verdict of $389,000.00.

In 1993, Mahoney opened his own office. He is a member in good standing of the Massachusetts, New York, and Federal District Court bars. He is a Life Member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a member of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Mahoney recently authored Relentless Criminal Cross-Examination (James Publishing Co., 2008). He is a frequent on-air legal analyst for Fox News Live, Fox & Friends, CNN, Nancy Grace, Court TV (now Tru TV) and Greater Boston with Emily Rooney.

In his spare time, Mahoney can be found backpacking through the White Mountains, Glacier National Park or remote areas of Iceland, deer hunting in Pennsylvania, running along the Charles River, hiking the rain forests of Costa Rica, living it up in Reykjavik, or competing in No-Limit Texas Hold’em poker tournaments. In fact Mahoney finished fourth in a recent World Poker Tour tournament.
